Comment trouver l'effort R qui résulte d'une poutre que l'on met par exemple sur un appui simple ou l'on applique une force. Normalement la poutre se réduit puisqu'elle se courbe. Imaginons que les 2 appuis soient des roulements par exemple, quel effort de traction longitudinal ( R ) vais-je obtenir si j'exerce une force (F) latéralement? Voir le croquis très simple.
